The walkway section and benches in the picture below have become a “beach dock” tossed about by the waves. About a month ago, the “beach dock” was in the myrtles near the walkway leading to Jimmy Smith’s house. Now it’s 500 yards north of Osprey Walk.

Naturalist Intern Chrissie Lanzieri has mapped the change in the Dewees shoreline from 2006 to 2008. The change is dramatic and a bit scary. In some places Dewees has lost 200 feet of beach. Chrissie says the situation has deteriorated since the 2008 data was collected. Even more beach has eroded.

Jim Anderson announced today that he will be retiring from the Dewees POA Board effective 12/31/08. He announced the news to the Board on Saturday. Alex Kliros will serve the remember of Jim Anderson’s term — 15 months. Barbara Mack, the Vice President of the Board, will assume the Presidency on January 1, 2009.

The erosion on Dewees over the past 18 months exposed 30 or so old sand fencing posts north of Osprey Walk. Continued erosion in October and November washed away the posts. Only about 6 remain. See picture.
