Several old sand bags near Osprey Walk have been exposed by erosion of the front beach.  I’ve been told that the sand bags were put down after Hurricane Hugo, but pre-date the development of Dewees that started in the early 1990’s.  I’m not aware of a written source that says when they were installed on [...]

Swimmers Beware

When you see buoy on floating in the water just off the front beach of Dewees it probably means there’s a tree stump under there.  Stay clear in order to avoid get hurt.

Beach Stumps

Erosion of the front beach north of Gary McGraw’s walkway has exposed some tree stumps.  They are visible at low tide, but hidden under the waves at low tide.  The island staff might want to cut them out or mark them with buoys so that no one dives into them when the tide is high.

On July 20, I published a picture of Gary McGraw’s walkway showing how much sand Tropical Depression 3 took from Dewees on July 18/19.  Just a week later much of the sand seems to have returned.  Here’s a picture of Gary’s walkway taken this morning.

It looks like the barge has done some damage to the piling dolphin (a dolphin is a group of pilings strapped together) at the Dewees Marina.  Here’s a picture take today (July 22):

Whether its natural or man-made, ghost crabs like to collect garbage and put it near their holes on the beach.  If you know why, please let the rest of us know.
